Childhood stuff continues to be inspired by this fic but does not follow it directly.
It's Roxy's sixth birthday. At this point, she's feeling rather...haggard. Depressed, but there is some excitement. It's her birthday, that means she can open a new box from her mom and even if things are wearing, this is a good thing! She pulls out the box that says Roxy: Age 6. There's not much in the box, clothes that are usual, but otherwise it's just a webcame, a CD, an instruction booklet, and a folded note that has 'follow instructions first' written in purple. There is disappointment when there's no personal message.
She follows the instructions, setting up the camera with her laptop and installing the program on the CD. She knows it's supposed to be an instant messaging system and has video chats after reading through the booklet. After she opens the note.

She recognizes it as a pesterchum handle, the program she just installed. She types it in and invites him to a video chat, not sure what this means. Perhaps it was a Carapacian Agent? An alien ally?
When a human appears on the video, she jerks back and falls out of the chair, but is quick to scramble back up. There is shock and wonder and so much confusion. It's hard to read Dirk, he's not the best at emoting, but she's pretty sure the expression is supposed to be surprised from movies, but she couldn't be sure.
It takes several minutes for them to speak, and it's Dirk at first. He's kind of flat, robotic, and when Roxy talks back, it's with the stilted stuttering because she's still terrible with the verbal, but it's worth it. It's worth the stuttering because it's the first human she's seen her whole life.
The same for him. History said they had all died out a long time ago. Which is...depressing, but Roxy isn't surprised at the confirmation, and decides to just move on from that.
So they talk. They talk a lot. She tells him about her Carapacians (but not the rampant starvation), how they talk, she's been practicing talking though! About the video games she plays, and she's reading up on programming, but it's kind of difficult to get. About the Appearify which can make pumpkins, and fishing, and how her mom leaves her boxes for her birthday with messages and clothes.
Dirk says he gets the same from his Bro. He tells her about his apartment up above the water, all alone. (Roxy thinks it sounds even worse than her, at least the Carapacians are something.) He says he's working on building robots, can sew, and he likes to look up history. He has a pet mini-pony, as it's doll sized, but a living pony, and he was raised by Lil Cal.
They talk themselves hoarse, asking questions and talking about what they like, until they eventually fall asleep at their keyboards.
Break Down

-The birthday boxes are a yearly tradition.
-Dirk is completely alone, a sole building in the middle of the ocean.
-He does fishing, sewing, robotics, and history.
-He has a doll-sized pony and Lil Cal!
-Which...is....an odd puppet, but Dirk treats him as real, so Roxy rolls.
-Who knows, maybe it is real, stranger has happened.
-Just talk for hours and hours about those things and there is SUCH JOY.
-He talks like a robot and she still stumbles and struggles through her words.

Meaning
Well, now she gets to know what Dirk's situation was and it's HORRIBLE, at least she had Carpacians and Dirk has a mini-horse and a puppet.
Also, yes, humans have been more or less extinct A LONG TIME. Fuck time travel and what it does.
Overall, it is a positive memory. It's nice to know how she met Dirk, and know more about him. Mostly it's a lot of Dirk dere over this memory because he's THERE and understand and interesting and SO COOL.

They're on LOCAH, the house balloon fully raised because quest things. Jane's room, Jane's living room minus one stuffed dead relative, plus a more normal kitchen and study. There are also some strange machines about.
Basically it starts off with Jane and Roxy off solving puzzles and exploring crypts around LOCAH. Jane is REALLY GOOD at solving the riddles and mysteries and Roxy keeps them from being found by the skeletons. They could take them on if they have to, but Roxy doesn't want Jane in a fight if they can avoid it.
All the while, there's mutterings about Jake and Dirk, who are off on LOTAK and doing adventuring date things. Jane keeps playing it off as fine, but Roxy knows she's hurting, and really, she thinks all her friends are ridiculous for not talking together, but doesn't comment.
They get through the crypt faster than they thought they would and Jane's clearly not as happy as they should be, and Roxy decides that nope, that won't do. She tries to think of ways to cheer her up on the way to her house and when they walk inside, it comes to her.
She excitedly declares a realization! It's the first time she's staying the night at Jane's house, it's the first time she could have a sleepover and she basically asks Jane over and over again can they do a proper sleepover like an excited puppy.
She notices the brief sadness in Jane's frame as she realizes WHY Roxy is so eager, she never had the chance for it, which is exactly what Roxy planned. Can't be having upset feelings about Dirk and Jake if Jane is more focused on giving Roxy something she's never had.
So they do the sleepover thing. They go to the Alchemizer and use punch cards to get some supplies. Popcorn, baking stuff, more pillows and blankets. They start off with baking, and there is a...small conflict where Roxy says no Betty Crocker, and Jane looks ready to fight, but she let's it go this one time. It feels like it's an old conflict.
Jane shows Roxy how to make chocolate chip cookies. and Roxy kind of making a mess even though she doesn't really NEED to, but it distracts Jane and makes her laugh and that's the only thing she wants to be able to do right now. In the end, Roxy's are messy and all different sizes, but come out okay. Jane's are still better because Jane is a pro.
The pillow fight comes after as they are changing out of their clothes, and Roxy in her infinite wisdom, remembers pillow fights in movies happen with girls in underwear, so starts it mid changing. Jane retaliates and there's the jumping on the bed and hitting each other with pillows. Eventually they tire themselves out and land in a heap, giggling and happy, and stay there a few minutes. Roxy notices Jane is staring at her ribs at some point, because it's still too early, and she's still so thin, and she hops up to get the pajamas, declaring it time for movies!
A bucket of water gets dumped on her head as she tries to leave the bedroom, making Jane burst out laughing, and Roxy yells 'CROCKER,' but it's all a good nature prankster gambit, so she joins in the laughter. She changes and they set up for movies with popcorn and cookies. There's a lot of mystery movies, but also something veeeeery like Harry Potter, but is not actually Harry Potter. There's some truth or dare, with the topic of crushes not broached, make overs, and a lot of girls being giggly and happy and passing out in a pile of blankets and pillows.
Break Down
-LOCAH and LOTAK. LOCAH is Jane's world, LOTAK is another.
-Dirk and Jake are on an ADVENTURE DATE.
-Jane is not happy, but trying not to be obvious, but it's super obvious.
-Gosh, you idiots just need to talk. =T
-Puzzle solving, mysteries, avoiding skeletons, KEEPING JANE SAFE.
-Oh, look, they finished, and Jane is still upset about Dirkjake.
-WE ARE GONNA HAVE A SLEEPOVER.

-Jane teaching her how to baaaaake and is cheering up and yay~

-Roxy really like FANTASY AND WIZARDS FOREVER.

Wondering why...Jane feels sorry for her? Where DID Jane grow up? What's with this weird? May be starting to suspect more time travel, but not sure WHY.

There is an awful lot of RED FORKS around, but the red forks also appear to be on things that certainly look like the Betty Crocker things from the store, just....fork instead of sppoon. So, there appears to be....a thing. An old thing. Because Roxy SUPER ADORES JANE, but without a doubt, her hatred and distrust everything with Betty Crocker is extremely powerful. She very deliberately does not touch ANYTHING RED in Jane's house. Jane does not share that sentiment, but they don't get into it here.
