Where I lived when I was young... it looked a lot like this.

[Spirits all day everyday.]

It's a beautiful place. Peaceful.

Yeah. Used to be a huge dock on the other side of the island for plenty of boats... houses and streets made of white stone...

I miss it sometimes.

[All the time. Constantly. But eh. Details.]

...can you visit it, or is that not an option?

[A heavy pause, before he shakes his head.]

Not an option. It's gone.

[She reaches for his hand, slowly, giving him time to pull away.]

[He'll catch it in time, thank god. He only recoils a little bit before collecting himself again, breath in, breath out, and reaching back to take that hand.]

[She takes his hand and link their fingers together.]

I'm sorry.

[Somber, sympathetically.]

[A fake smile, too easy to read. All reaction, no substance. But he squeezes her hand in return as that expression falls.]

Can't bring it back. That won't change.

So.... the best I can do is remember it for what it was, you know?

[She nods.]

That's good. It deserves to be remembered. It'll always live on somehow like that.

[It's not a bad comment. Frankly, it's a great one. One that's very touching. But there's that flicker, that knowledge that no one else seemed to think so, no one else seemed to remember or care. It darkens his expression, fingers tightening a bit painfully against her palm.]

Even if you're the last one... [And there's a shift. Seagulls join the scene. The sounds of dogs barking in the distance, rustle in the bushes of rabbits.] You still remember.

And there's others you can tell 'bout 'em. Honor their memory.

[It's nice. This all is... nice. To share it without all the charade.

Kind of odd, though. To hear that from you.

...not like the concept was new, y'know.

Just....got tired of it for a while.

[She looks out at the water.]

I had to survive with so little for a long time. But I needed it, that little bit I had. So I could keep going.

I didn't know what to do without it.

If it's what can anchor you, it's hard not to take it and hold on with all you've got. Feels like a waste of what's been given otherwise.

Though...

[Squeezing her hand again.]

I hope having a little more isn't unwelcome. Even if it's hard to see or accept the result that might come. At the very least... maybe it'll make things a little less tiring.

[She nods, squeezing his hand.] That's what I've been hoping would happen, when I realized you all were in here.

I wanted to be able to accept something new. New reasons to hope. To find something to keep moving with.
